A Georgia State Patrol trooper shot twice after a police chase on Interstate-75 last week is on the road to recovery.

Trooper Jacob Fields underwent surgery for leg and stomach wounds.

Fields, 26, was shot in the leg and abdomen during the Wednesday afternoon incident, which began when he tried to pull over a suspected speeder on I-75 near Chastain Road. The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Israel Vladimir Rodriguez, sped away and led Fields on a 10-mile chase that ended with a crash and an exchange of gunfire. Rodriguez was killed

The Marietta Police Department posted a photo of officers visiting Fields at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital Saturday.

Fields is a three-year veteran of the state patrol and serves out of Post 9.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety, meanwhile, tweeted an address where cards can be sent to Fields: GSP Post 9, 3993 Aviation Circle, Atlanta, Ga., 30336.
