Gratitude in unlikely places

On Thanksgiving Day, it’s a popular tradition to publicly give thanks for the good things and blessings in one’s life.
For many people though, 2015 has been particularly difficult year. Many of those public and private trials have played out in the news pages of this paper. We talked to some of the people from current stories involving accidental — and intentional — life-changing events, a corruption scandal and a person who lost everything he had in a house fire.
But despite devastating hardships, the spirit of thanksgiving can sometimes prevail.
Here are a few of their stories.
