The Fayetteville Police Department will use a $12,000 state grant to fund technology aimed at improving local traffic safety. The grant, which runs until September, was announced last week and was bestowed by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

Police Chief Scott Gray said the funds “will be instrumental in providing up-to-date technology to officers in the field…to efficiently investigate collisions and traffic safety concerns in our effort to make the roadways of Fayetteville safer.” Grant-related purchases will include computers, printers and other computer hardware.

GOHS Director Allen Poole said in a statement that almost all fatal traffic accidents can be prevented, and that his office will continue to develop education and enforcement campaigns aimed at reducing such incidents.
