Good workday: Gwinnett grocery bagger wins $3M on ticket from store

Richard Shy landed in the limelight at work this week when he learned he could coast into his golden years.

The 65-year-old grocery bagger from Stone Mountain was one of two people to each win $3 million in a Georgia lottery drawing, lottery officials announced Thursday.

Shy played numbers representing special family events to match all six numbers in the Jumbo Bucks Lotto with Ca$h Match drawing after buying the ticket for the Monday drawing at the Publix Super Market on Five Forks Trickum Road in Lilburn.

Shy had worked 15 years at the grocery store. He checked the ticket on his lunch break.

He said he plans to invest the winnings and pay off bills, officials said.

The second jackpot-winning ticket in the lotto drawing was sold in Cedartown.
