Atlanta police sought the public’s help Tuesday in finding a suspect who allegedly attacked and robbed a Good Samaritan in north Atlanta on Monday.

Police said Kevin Frey was stabbed Monday after he came to the aid of a man yelling for help in the 500 block of Centennial Olympic Parkway, near the Georgia Tech campus.

When Frey reached a “dark area under a tree,” he was confronted by an unknown man who hit him on the side of his head with a medium sized rock, according to police spokesman Officer John Chafee.

Frey said he turned to run and felt a sharp pain in his back, which caused him to lose consciousness. After coming to, the stabbing victim told police he flagged down a female, who called police.

Chafee said Frey, who was staying at a homeless shelter on Mills Street south of the area where he was attacked, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated.
