Marietta police need citizen volunteers
In 2012, the MPD Citizen Volunteer Program was established and quickly became a large and integral part of the police department. At conception, it had approximately 20 volunteers. As of today there are almost 50 volunteers and the program continues to grow. This year to date the volunteers have put in over 2,800 hours and still have two months to go before the end of the year. Some of the biggest accomplishments of the volunteer program include working the bus detail for Marietta Middle School, assisting in apartment complex ordinances, patrol areas with high amount of vandalism or burglaries, assist with road closures and directing traffic to free up uniform patrol.
Some of the other volunteer assignments include courts, Cobb Elder Abuse Task Force, the District Attorney’s Office helping with cold cases and community outreach.
