Meals on Wheels seeks volunteers for pet food program
According to Meals on Wheels America, seniors with pets are less likely to exhibit depression, report feelings of loneliness and experience illness. Owning a pet, however, can become a financial burden to seniors on a fixed income. More often than not, a devoted animal lover will feed their hungry pet before they feed themselves.
Meals on Wheels Loves Pets is a grant program from Meals on Wheels America aimed to help ease the cost of pet ownership and keep pets and seniors together. Senior Services North Fulton, a nonprofit that has been supporting older adults in the North Fulton community since 1991, received a $2,500 grant from Meals on Wheels America to help grow this important program.
It needs volunteers to sort 30 days’ worth of pet food and deliver it to their clients.
In total, Meals on Wheels America has granted $300,000 to 193 Meals on Wheels programs through the Meals on Wheels Loves Pets initiative this year. Funding is made possible in part through a donation from Banfield Charitable Trust. To date, the grant program has distributed more than $2.4 million in funding and pet food donations.

Truly Living Well needs farming assistance
Truly Living Well Center for Natural Urban Agriculture is committed to growing food, community and people. Since 2006, TLW has served the Atlanta community by using natural, GMO-free food production as a catalyst to creating jobs, healthier adults and children and building a safe inner city oasis for families and community to gather. Volunteers will assist farmers and market staff with washing, weighing and bundling produce for farmers market set up.
When you come to volunteer please wear closed- toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops!), long pants, and a long sleeve shirt (even in the summer). You will inevitably be dealing with dirt at some point so please wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle, as there is a jug of water onsite for you to fill up at. Farm work is not easy, but at the end of the day it delivers a feeling of satisfaction that can’t be beat!
When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9, 11, 14 and 15
Where: East Point, GA
