There's smart and then there's Georgia Tech smart.

Students admitted for next fall earned an average 3.94 GPA and 2102 out of 2400 SAT score. And they took at least three college-level Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes before senior year in high school, according to data Georgia Tech released Thursday.

Applicants can log on to Georgia Tech Friday to learn if they got in. The college moved to a paperless application process this year.

Georgia Tech admitted 47.5 percent of the 14,210 students who applied. Applications increased by 5 percent this year.

Students from 49 states applied. It seems no one from South Dakota wanted to go.

Georgia Tech received applications from 89 different countries, including a 30 percent increase from China.

The number of Georgians who applied dropped by 3 percent, but officials said the number of in-state students who enroll will not change from last year.

The admitted class is diverse. The number of Hispanics admitted increased by 28 percent, compared with a 19 percent increase for African-Americans and a 14 percent increase for women.

University of Georgia will notify students if they were accepted by the end of the month.
