The Georgia Power lineman who suffered burns from an explosion last month has died from his injuries, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office has confirmed.

Kylan Warren, 25, of Ellijay, had spent the past month at Grady Memorial Hospital's burn unit. He died on the same day as an organized charity motorcycle ride in his name.

"The Georgia Power family is devastated by the loss of Kylan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Warren family," company spokesman Jeff Wilson said.

Warren was at a site in Milton on July 15 when crew members who were trying to install a new power line pole accidentally drilled into a natural gas line.

Warren, who was working 30 feet up in a bucket truck at the time, had to jump down to escape the flames. He suffered burns over 80 percent of his body.

The line is owned by Atlanta Gas Light.

"Atlanta Gas Light would like to express its condolences to the family," Atlanta Gas Light spokeswoman Tami Gerke said.

Georgia Power and Atlanta Gas Light have been investigating the incident collaboratively.

Wilson told the AJC that investigating is continuing. He is not sure when it will be complete.

"We're obviously conducting a thorough investigation," he told the AJC.

Georgia Power co-workers conducted a charity motorcycle ride at 10 a.m. The ride started at Georgia Power Corporate Office at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd.  A cookout will be held at Ellijay Elementary School at 11:30 a.m.

The cost to participate is $25 per bike, $15 per passenger. All proceeds will go to Warren's family, including his newlywed wife of only three months.

The ride marks an additional tragedy for Georgia Power. Michael Worley Hyde, a Georgia Power worker, was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on I-575 last Sunday after he, his wife, and several co-workers went to Ellijay to finalize plans for the charity event.

Hyde is in danger of losing his leg due to his injuries. His wife died from the accident.
