Freida Hill, the deputy commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia, will be the new chancellor of Alabama's two-year college system.

Alabama's state education board selected Hill on Friday. Her start date has not been determined.

Hill will be the two-year system's first woman chancellor, Alabama officials said. Other women have filled the position on an interim basis.

Hill, who has a doctorate from the University of Georgia, has served as deputy commissioner in Georgia since 2008. She's also worked at Gwinnett Technical College, Clayton State University and other public Georgia colleges.
