The other shoe has dropped on the Ga. 400 “flex” lanes.

On Friday, April 27, a Georgia Department of Transportation contractor was to permanently shut down the flexible shoulder lane of southbound Ga. 400 from Pitts to Abernathy roads. “The shoulder lane is no longer available as a travel lane at any time,” GDOT said.

The northbound flex lane in that stretch was permanently closed April 6.

The closures are part of the reconstruction of the Ga. 400/I-285 interchange in the top-end Perimeter area of North Fulton and DeKalb counties. They facilitate “the construction of collector-distributor (CD) lanes, walls, bridges and interchange improvements for the Transform 285/400 project,” GDOT said.

A temporary concrete barrier will reduce the existing, 12-foot, outside shoulder from Pitts to Abernathy to an 8-foot shoulder. Flex lane pavement markers will be removed; the shoulder, restriped; and signs, posted.

Flex lanes north of Pitts will remain open daily from 6 to 10 a.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Information: https://bit.ly/2jfU8S7
