Brandon Kirby has been named the new Georgia Department of Transportation District 1 engineer, responsible for northeast Georgia from the metro Atlanta counties of Forsyth and Gwinnett to the state line.

Most recently assistant district engineer and head of the preconstruction unit, Kirby takes the place of Brent Cook, who is retiring, according to a GDOT announcement.

Kirby “will oversee all the department’s programs, projects and activities in the area and will work to build partnerships with local and state lawmakers, chambers of commerce, business leaders, and the public in the region,” GDOT said.

A Georgia Tech graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Kirby has been with GDOT since 1996 as area engineer, assistant district construction engineer, legislative liaison, and assistant state program delivery administrator. He is a northeast Georgia native and lives in Hall County. The District 1 office is in Gainesville.
