The state has announced more than $1.9 million in funding for 13 safety projects in five counties of metro Atlanta.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is funding the projects out of the Off-System Safety Program for fiscal 2016 local maintenance and improvement grants. The program supports low-cost safety improvements on city streets and county roads. A full list of funded projects is available at the GDOT website, 1.usa.gov/1qGZurS.

The largest grant, $896,123, is for shoulder work, striping, pavement markers and school flashing signals in Douglas County. The second-largest amount is $300,000 for pavement striping and markers on eight roads in Clayton County; and the third-largest, $210,000 for a flashing beacon in the city of Atlanta.

Also, Cobb County is getting $155,000 for high-friction road surfaces including striping and road pavement markers at four locations; Lovejoy, $63,980 for pedestrian improvements; and Fulton County, $61,000 for a trail and a “Hawk signal,” a midblock pedestrian crossing signal on Buford Highway.

Forest Park will receive $56,301 for striping, signage, and midblock and railroad warning flashers; Brookhaven, $50,000 for striping, signage, school flashers and permanent radar signs; and Dunwoody, $50,000 for striping, signage and pedestrian crosswalk work.
