Upgrades to Ga.400 in the Roswell area and bridge rehabilitations across the region have been announced as part of more than $82.7 million in newly awarded highway construction contracts around the state.

The Georgia Department of Transportation on Wednesday released a list of June 3 contract awards. In North Fulton County, Precision 2000 Inc., Atlanta, submitted the low bid of $2.6 million to make operational improvements and install video cameras on Ga. 400 at Holcomb Bridge Road.

In another major metro Atlanta project, C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc., Marietta, bid $4 million to resurface about 12.5 miles of Ga. 81 in Henry County. Other contracts were let for bridge rehabs in Cherokee, Bartow, DeKalb and Fulton counties.

The largest contract announced Wednesday, worth nearly $13.8 million, went to C.W. Matthews to resurface six miles of the Downtown Connector (I-75/85) in Atlanta. The job is to start this summer and be competed in April 2017.

About $48.4 million, or 58 percent of total GDOT awards, were for road resurfacing and maintenance projects. Bridge maintenance and construction account for nearly $23 million, roughly 28 percent.
