Gas prices drop below $3 a gallon at some metro stations
As metro Atlantans hit the road for Christmas travel, they will find gas prices considerably cheaper than over the Thanksgiving holiday period, with some stations now selling gas for under $3 a gallon.
Thursday morning’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded across metro Atlanta was $3.09, according to the website atlantagasprices.com. That’s about the same as one year ago, but a dime lower than one week ago and 17 cents a gallon cheaper than one month ago.
The lowest price reported early Thursday was $2.96 at several warehouse clubs around town. Gas was selling for $2.97 or $2.98 at some stations in Duluth, Mableton, Kennesaw, Alpharetta and Stockbridge.
The highest price reported by the website was $3.69 at a Midtown Citgo station and a Chevron in Marietta.
Statewide, the cheapest gas was $2.89 a gallon at several stations in the Augusta area.
The average price nationwide Thursday was $3.22 a gallon.
Motorists filling up in adjacent states on Thursday found gas selling for as little as $2.75 in South Carolina, $2.79 in Tennessee, $2.80 in Alabama, $2.94 in North Carolina and $2.97 in Florida.
