A gas main break has shut down part of Auburn Avenue in downtown Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Crews were working on the street car project when a 2-inch, low-pressure gas line ruptured between Piedmont Avenue and Courtland Street, Atlanta fire spokeswoman Janet Ward said. There was a small fire when authorities arrived.

A construction worker suffered minor injuries and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, she said.

By 5:45 p.m., the gas was no longer leaking, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The road was expected to reopen Wednesday night after repairs were completed.
