A 23-year-old Fulton County man was shot to death by police in Florida after an alleged robbery at a hotel.

Carl Torrance Brennan, of Fairburn, is accused of robbing several people Saturday night in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn on Marsh Landing Parkway near Butler Boulevard, The Florida Times-Union reported.

One of the robbery victims provided Jacksonville Beach Police with a description of the suspect, and officers located the man, later identified as Brennan, in a vehicle at the opposite end of the parking lot, Capt. Thomas Bingham told the newspaper.

Officers repeatedly asked Brennan to put down the weapon and surrender, but he refused, Bingham said. Officers shot Brennan because he posed a threat, police said. He died at the scene.
