A frost advisory has been posted for metro Atlanta for early Thursday, when widespread temperatures in the 30s are expected.

The frost advisory is in effect from 2 to 9 a.m. Thursday, for all of north Georgia north of a line from LaGrange to Forsyth to Warrenton.

Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley said the coldest temperatures since last April are likely overnight, with lows in the upper 30s expected throughout metro Atlanta. Even colder temperatures are in Chandley’s weekend forecast.

Chandley said afternoon temperatures will be in the low 60s Wednesday and mid-60s Thursday, but might only reach the mid-50s Friday before dropping into the mid-30s early Saturday.

Weekend highs will be around 60 Saturday and 68 Sunday, Chandley said.

Atlanta’s normal high for Oct. 23 is 71, the normal low 52.

And in case you’re wondering, the average date for Atlanta’s first official freezing temperature is Nov. 7, although the city has recorded 32 degrees as early as September 24, in 1928. The latest first freeze of the season was on Dec. 6, 1978.
