A line of rain and thunderstorms that moved into the northwest corner of the state before daybreak Friday was knocking on metro Atlanta’s door by the end of the morning rush hour, and by noon, the entire metro area was covered by rain that stretched back into Alabama.

Rainfall totals through noon included .69 inch in Dunwoody, .51 inch in Marietta and .22 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The Weather Service said “scattered to numerous” thunderstorms would move through North Georgia Friday ahead of a strong cold front that will drop temperatures dramatically by Saturday morning.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said lows Saturday morning would be around 40 degrees intown, and could drop into the mid-30s in the suburbs.

Saturday and Sunday should be sunny and cool, with highs both days in the mid-60s. Lows early Sunday should be in the mid-40s.
