Incoming Forsyth County sheriff Ron Freeman has been sworn in for his four-year term which begins Jan. 1.

Freeman took the oath of office Dec. 21 from probate judge Woody Jordan. He defeated incumbent Duane Piper in the Nov. 8 general election. He also announced his command staff with includes Grady Sanford Jr. who has served in multiple capacities with the Georgia State Patrol.

The incoming sheriff’s background in law enforcement goes back 28 years. He formerly served as the sheriff’s office chief of detectives and south precinct commander.

Freeman indicated he planned to hit the ground running as he takes on on a trio of short-term goals: working toward placing a school resource officer in every Forsyth County school, increasing the officers assigned to narcotics duty from two to between eight and 10 and re-opening the department’s south precinct office.
