For free, Cobb County library patrons will be able to check out a Southern Museum Pass that will admit two adults and two children into the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History in Kennesaw.

This decision was made 5-0 Sept. 11 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, following last year’s successful pilot program by the city of Kennesaw and the Cobb County Public Library System for six months at the Kennesaw and Acworth Libraries.

Now the program will be expanded to all 16 Cobb County Public Library locations.

Before receiving the museum pass, library patrons will need to check out a brief DVD, explaining the museum’s history and provided by the museum, to view at home.

When patrons return the DVD to the library, then they will receive the museum pass.

Patrons will need to show their library card and museum pass for free admittance to the museum but not for special events.

While marketing materials for the Southern Museum Pass will include the stipulation that the pass should be checked out only once a year per family, the library will not monitor the frequency of use by patrons.

However, museum officials will determine if and how they will monitor the frequency of the circulation of the pass at their site.

In exchange with the museum, the Kennesaw and Acworth Libraries will post flyers in their libraries to promote the museum’s Mommy and Me story time with the flyers to be supplied by the museum.

Also, the museum will post story time schedules for the Kennesaw and Acworth Libraries with the libraries providing the museum with these schedules.
