Users of the Big Creek Greenway multi-use trail in Forsyth County take note; two sections will be closed temporarily starting May 31 because of roadway and trail upgrades.
Officials said the section of the trail between mile markers 1.3 and 1.4 (cq) beneath Ga. 400 will be shut down for 90 days while the highway bridge over that section is being widened. It’s part of the work underway to add a lane in each direction on Ga. 400 between McFarland Parkway and Ga. 369. The target date for reopening is Aug. 31. The section is between the McFarland Parkway and Union Hill Road trailheads.
In addition, a 90-day renovation project is set to start on a portion of phase one of the Greenway. The work will begin at the Union Hill Road trailhead and will extend northward to mile marker 0.4. (cq) The project includes repairing and replacing a 200-foot section of boardwalk and foundation and is set to finish up by Aug. 31, barring any weather delays.
