Forsyth County K9s Hummer, Bowie and Draco have been given ballistic protective vests thanks to a local resident and a Massachusetts-based nonprofit.

Cumming resident Joe Radack donated $2,850 to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. to cover the cost of the protective gear. The charity provides bullet and stab-proof vests to police dogs utilized by law enforcement and similar agencies throughout the country.

Sheriff’s officials said each vest cost $950 and has a five-year warranty.
