The Forsyth County Ethics Panel has decided that an ethics complaint filed against District 4 county commissioner Cindy Jones Mills will move ahead to a next phase.

During a meeting Friday, the board decided to proceed with an evidentiary hearing during which both Mills and complainant Jay Guidry will make opening statements, testify on their own behalf and/or call witnesses, then wrap up. The panel will then weigh the evidence and make a decision including on whether any penalties should be assessed under the ethics ordinance.

The complaint claims Mills violated the Georgia Open Records Act multiple times by deleting text messages involving her, developers connected to pending zoning issues, other county commissioners and zoning attorneys.

No time or date has been set for the evidentiary hearing.
