Forsyth County government has switched to a new company to provide emergency and severe weather alerts.

Swift911 is now giving emergency notification to residents via email, phone call and/or text message, replacing Twenty First Century Communications. A county spokeswoman said Swift is more user-friendly and also allows the county more flexibility in sending messages.

Here’s how to sign up for notification of severe weather, public safety issues, even water issues:

Online:

Visit the Forsyth County website at www.forsythco.com and look for the ‘Emergency & Weather Alerts’ icon on the home page.

On a smartphone:

Text SWIFT911 to 99538 to download the free Swift911 app.
