The Forsyth County School District is inviting the public to help name the new, centralized performing arts center on the campus of the Board of Education and Professional Development Center near Cumming.
To submit a name: https://bit.ly/31KEe7S. The name can be for a distinguished deceased person who made an extraordinary contribution to a school or the school district; had a record of distinction in their respective field; and was a positive role model.
A recommended name will be taken to the Board of Education in September for approval.
The performing arts center is scheduled to open in late 2021 with a 1,800-seat performance hall, black box theater, rehearsal rooms that can be used for event and meeting space, dressing and green rooms, catering kitchen and lobby with gallery space, officials said. It will support the fine arts programs of Forsyth’s 38 schools.
The project is funded by the voter-approved 2018 bond referendum, officials said. Information: https://bit.ly/33DSOzH
While the county’s six traditional high schools have auditoriums, “elementary and middle schools do not have auditoriums; our largest elementary is over 1,400 students, and the largest middle is over 1,500 students,” the district said in explaining the need for the facility.
