After hearing about a staff shortage and a growing number of zoning cases, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to enact an emergency moratorium on new zoning applications until April 8.
County attorney Ken Jarrard told the commission that it could end the moratorium before that date if the situation eases. He said it could also be lengthened after an April 7 public hearing that would be required for any extension beyond then.
The moratorium affects only applications for property rezoning, sketch plat approval, zoning condition amendments and conditional use permits, Jarrard said. He added that items already in progress won’t be impacted.
The planning and community development department is down multiple senior planners and other personnel and needs to catch up, Jarrard said.
