Forsyth County officials broke ground Friday on a new fire station that will serve northeast Forsyth residents. Construction of the new Station 8 on Keith Bridge Road is being funded through a combination of SPLOST funds and impact fees paid by developers.
County officials said the current smaller station built in 1984 has exceeded its life expectancy and was never designed for 24-hour occupancy. The replacement building will be a four-stall facility designed to house current crews with possible expansion.
During construction the Station 8 crew will relocate to Dawson County Fire Station 2 located off Ga. 53.
