After an eight-month online petition drive to get Publix to give up the lease of a closed supermarket at the Shops at Buckhead Crossing in Woodstock, a Sprouts Farmers Market will reportedly move into the space.

The Change.org petition, with more than 1,000 signatures, said retailer Tuesday Morning has been subleasing the former Publix space in the shopping center on Towne Lake Parkway at Buckhead Crossing. The petition said the home furnishings store could relocate elsewhere in the center so a new anchor could move in.

“Currently, the redevelopment of the shopping center is on track to be substantially finished in mid-2017,” a news release from the city said. Retail Planning Corp. purchased the Shops at Buckhead Crossing in late 2014, and Sprouts “has been at the table” since shortly after the transaction closed.

Elected officials and staff have been working with Retail Planning, and “there were many hurdles involving a former anchor tenant and the current subtenant,” the release said. “We are excited to announce that these hurdles appear to have crossed,” said Brian Stockton, economic development director for Woodstock.
