Former Blake's doorman Phil Hickman, dies

Phil Hickman, a longtime doorman at the popular Midtown bar, Blake’s on the Park, has died, his former employer confirmed.

It’s been years since Hickman has worked at Blake’s, a fixture in Midtown's gay community, but General Manager David Stark said he was still recognizable in the neighborhood.

“He knew everybody,” said Stark, who became the general manager of Blake’s four years ago, long after Phil had left. “He became more of a character in the neighborhood after he stopped working here. You’d see him all of the time.”

Blake’s is planning a tribute to Hickman on June 15, Stark said.
