Extreme north Georgia was under a winter weather advisory Wednesday, and while forecasters said flurries are possible as far south as Atlanta, no accumulation was expected in the metro area.
Fifteen counties from Pickens and Dawson northward were under the advisory through 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The National Weather Service said that snow accumulations up to 1 inch were possible, mainly at elevations above 1,500 feet.
The precipitation was expected to begin as a rain and snow mix, then change over to all snow before tapering off Wednesday afternoon.
“Only the highest elevations are expected to see accumulating snowfall, but hazardous driving conditions could be experienced at all locations,” the Weather Service said in the advisory.
Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley said there’s a 20 percent chance of a wintry mix of precipitation across metro Atlanta Wednesday, with no accumulation of snow.
Temperatures across metro Atlanta at 5 a.m. Wednesday ranged from 30 degrees in Peachtree City, 31 in Alpharetta and 32 in Johns Creek and Mableton to 39 in Chamblee and 42 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Afternoon highs Wednesday will be in the mid-40s, Chandley said.
Thursday will be sunny but cold, with morning lows in the mid-20s and afternoon highs again in the mid-40s.
A 20 percent chance of rain is forecast for Friday, when lows will be in the low 40s and highs in the low 40s.
The weekend should be sunny, according to Chandley, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s.
