Firefighter injured in SW Atlanta crash released from Grady

An Atlanta firefighter returned home Friday morning after being injured in a wreck while en route to a warehouse fire.

A fire truck collided with an SUV carrying two other firefighters at Lee and Van Buren streets in southwest Atlanta Thursday night. The two firefighters traveling in the SUV were transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital while four others in the wrecked fire truck were taken by the department later to be checked out, Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Cortez Stafford said.

“They had bumps, bruises and a few scrapes,” he said of the four firefighters.

The two firefighters in the SUV had non-life threatening injuries, said Stafford, who added the one released after 12 a.m. Friday may have suffered a broken collarbone.

The firefighters were headed to the 1900 block of Murphy Avenue in southwest Atlanta, the scene of the fire, when the collision occurred, Stafford said.
