Fire ripped through a popular Colombian restaurant in the Buford Highway Farmers Market plaza Wednesday morning.

Workers inside Las Delicias De La Abuela were the first to notice the smoke about 3:30 a.m. and called for help, fire officials told Channel 2 Action News. The fire was extinguished quickly, but the back of the restaurant sustained significant damage, the news station reported.

“It was contained to the bar area,” DeKalb County fire spokesman Capt. Dion Bentley told Channel 2. “Of course, we will have some smoke damage and some water damage from us having to extinguish the fire, but for the most part the restaurant shouldn’t be closed for too long.”

Las Delicias De La Abuela opened in the Buford Highway Farmers Market plaza in 2017. The restaurant also operates its original location on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.
