A Sandy Springs restaurant is closed until further notice due to an early morning fire.

Firefighters received a call about 1 a.m. Wednesday and arrived to find heavy smoke at Ippolito’s Italian restaurant at 6623 Roswell Road.

Sharon Kraun, public information officer for the Sandy Springs Fire Department, said the restaurant has extensive damage and the cause is under investigation.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was unable to reach owner Brandon Ippolito on his plans to repair or reopen the location.

A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said the restaurant will be closed for the foreseeable future.

The eatery offered limited dine-in service during the cornavirus pandemic. According the post, Ippolito’s first opened in 1992.
