Peachtree City Fire Chief Joe O’Conor says the city will conduct a public education campaign regarding changes in the state fireworks law.

O’Conor briefed the city council on May 21 about recent legislation that takes effect July 1, when virtually all commercial fireworks can be used on private property from 10 a.m. to midnight any day of the year, and until 2 a.m. on July 3-4 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

“If you can buy it, you can blow it up,” O’Conor said. “This is going to be a very loud Fourth of July.”

`The law prevents municipalities from restricting fireworks use except on city-owned property, including streets. Council members expressed concern about increased injuries and noise complaints.
