Two alleged car burglars were being held in Coweta County Jail on Thursday after a victim’s “Find My iPad” program led sheriff’s deputies directly to them at a Newnan pawn shop.
Jarvis Ramon Arnold, 24, and Lionell Devoris Daniel, 26, were arrested Aug. 19 in connection with at least 17 vehicle burglaries including the break-in that got them the iPad that snitched on them, according to Coweta County Sheriff’s Maj. James Yarbrough.
After Cody Ives’ iPad and work computer were stolen last week, he activated the iPad locator program that he had downloaded from Apple. As soon as the alleged thieves turned the device on, it sent out a signal telling Ives where his machine could be found.
Coweta Sheriff’s deputies went straight to the source – the pawn shop – and arrested Arnold and Daniel. The officers recovered Cody’s belongings as well as those of other alleged theft victims.
Each man was charged with 17 counts of entering autos, one count of theft by receiving, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Yarbrough said.
“Find My iPad” is a free Apple program that lets an owner track a device, remotely lock it, erase its data or sound an alarm. Similar programs are available for iPhones and iPod Touch devices.
