Crews will soon begin cleaning and landscaping on the Abernathy Linear Park in Sandy Springs, getting the site ready for major work next year.

Fencing and some walls also will go up along the park as part of the $490,000 first phase of the 25-acre park. That will keep the site safe for plans to build the first trail between Wright and Brandon Mill roads next spring. The city received a $700,000 to begin that trail.

Plans call for the park to extend down the north side of Abernathy Road, between Roswell and River Valley roads. The $15 million project will be built in phases over the next several years.
