The Fayette County Board of Education reviewed an updated draft of the school system’s FY2017 budget Tuesday during a special work session.
Tom Gray, assistant superintendent of business and personnel, presented a revised budget that projects $192 million in general fund revenue next year and just under $193 million in expenses, up $8.8 million from this year. The system expects to start FY2017 with a $30 million fund balance. The revised expenses are about $1 million less than the budget presented to the board on May 16. Regarding proposed staff increases, Superintendent Jody Barrow said, “Everything we have here is justifiable,” but board members will continue to examine specific line items before deciding on a final budget in June.
