Fayette County has created an initiative to help recruit more sports events to the county and take advantage of sports tourism, one of the fastest-growing segments of the tourism industry. The Peachtree Fayette Sports Alliance is the brainchild of the Peachtree City Convention and Visitors Bureau, which will finance the initiative. The new group will be governed by a seven-member board of directors that include the county recreation department and the Peachtree City convention bureau. The alliance was recently invited to become a member of the Georgia Sports Council. The alliance wants to work with local sports groups and offer planning and organizing efforts for tournaments.
