In a change of pace for Fayette County rezoning hearings, the Board of Commissioners on July 25 unanimously approved a couple’s request to convert their property from single-family residential to agricultural use, rather than the more common other way around.

Patricia Nolde and Danny Dougherty Jr. petitioned to rezone their 6.833-acre property along Lester Road and Red Fox Run in the unincorporated county for the purpose of establishing an organic vegetable farm. The request was granted with the condition that all necessary variances related to a small airplane hangar on the site be approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals within 180 days. Nolde’s father spoke in support of the plan, praising its goal of using rural property for a purpose “besides something to build houses on.”
