Fayette County is asking citizens to help clean up the shores and waters of the Lake Horton reservoir as part of its Water Guardians program.
Led by county commissioner Steve Brown, the group will convene volunteers (with and without kayaks and canoes) from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the lake entrance at 1275 Antioch Road in Fayetteville.
The county will provide bottled water, trash grabbers and bags. Volunteers who have not already participated in a cleanup this year will receive a Water Guardians T-shirt if they register by Aug. 20; those already with T-shirts are asked to wear them to the event. Lunch will be provided after the cleanup.
All participants must sign a liability waiver, and no one under age 14 will be allowed to operate a kayak or canoe alone. Participants can register by sending their names, daytime phone number and T-shirt size to WaterGuardians@fayettecountyga.gov.
