Fayette County has revised its ordinance regarding “social hosts” to add stricter penalties for adults who allow underage drinking on their property.
The Board of Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved the revision, which states that anyone who knowingly allows guests under 21 to possess or consume alcohol at gatherings of three or more nonrelated people faces a fine of $500-$1,000 and/or up to six months in jail.
The new provisions are effective immediately.
Representatives from Fayette FACTOR and the Association of Village PRIDE said the crackdown was prompted by concerns about teenagers obtaining alcohol from their own homes or the homes of friends.
