A rumor that Fayette County was going to euthanize all of its unadopted animals on Dec. 20 was the result of mistaken identity. The story, first reported in the Tuscaloosa News, was about the shelter in Fayette County, Alabama, not Georgia.
Here, the Board of Commissioners and Fayette County Animal Control issued a statement saying its shelter animals are “safe and cared for this Christmas.” However, County Manager Steve Rapson noted that due to space limitations, “we can never 100 percent guarantee we won’t have to euthanize.” The shelter needs both permanent and foster homes for its cats and dogs.
