Liberty Tech Charter School will continue to lease the former Brooks Elementary School property in southern Fayette County for another five years.
The Board of Education voted 4-0-1 on Nov. 26 to extend the current lease from Sept. 1, 2019 until Aug. 30, 2024. Liberty Tech will pay $6,000 per month for use of the building and grounds at 119 Price Road “as is,” with the provision that the school assumes all responsibility for repairs and maintenance. If the county chooses to sell the property before the lease term is up, it must provide the school with a year’s notice.
Brooks Elementary was among four Fayette schools that were closed in 2013 due to recession-related budget cuts. Liberty Tech opened in 2016 and has 420 students enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade.
