A portion SR 54 at the Fayette/Clayton County border is scheduled to be closed Nov. 1-4 for construction on the Morning Creek Bridge.

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, E. Lanier Avenue/Fayetteville Road will be closed to through traffic until 5 a.m. Monday between Banks Road and Corinth Road. Only local traffic will be permitted in the vicinity of the bridge; through traffic will be rerouted on a detour using Banks Road, Glynn Street (SR 85) and Corinth Road. According to the Fayette County Public Works Department, crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation are raising the bridge and its approaches approximately 1.5 feet as part of an ongoing larger project to widen both the bridge and the road.

Last week’s rain postponed the original work schedule, which will be conducted on weekend days “to minimize impacts to the public,” the county said.
