Fatal wreck shuts I-20 East near Covington

May 14, 2009Two people were killed Thursday morning in a wreck that shut down all eastbound lanes of I-20 in Newton County.
The wreck happened before 9 a.m. near Mile Marker 99, about 40 miles east of Atlanta, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The DOT confirmed two fatalities, but the identities of those killed were not immediately available.
Authorities were routing eastbound traffic off I-20 onto Ga. 11, then onto U.S. 278 eastbound to Ga. 12 and back onto I-20.
