A man alleged to have shot at DeKalb police officers Friday after robbing a Family Dollar store is in custody.
The incident began at about 9:45 a.m. in the 1800 block of Panola Road, said DeKalb spokesperson Mekka Parrish.
“A customer called 911 stating that she observed an individual enter the [store] wearing a ski mask and armed with a weapon,” Parish said, later adding he left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“Prior to our arrival, that individual fled the Family Dollar,” Parrish said. “A perimeter was immediately set up and an officer did observe that individual near Panola Road, kicking in the rear door of a residence.”
The suspect, who has not been identified, shot at police, who fired back, said Parrish.
The man surrendered peacefully at about 1 p.m. after a SWAT team arrived at the Panola Road home, said Parrish.
No injuries were reported.
A second suspect is being sought in the robbery, police said. Charges against the first suspect have not been announced.
Redan Middle School on Young Road, along with nearby Panola Way and Marbut elementary schools, were placed on lockdown during the incident.
