The search for a man who escaped from Banks County Jail ended just short of 24 hours after it began, the sheriff's office said.

Paul Dylan Gross, 23, fled the jail’s recreation area shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday and he was caught at 6 p.m. Friday, Banks sheriff’s Sgt. Carissa McFaddin said in an email.

Gross had made it about six miles from the jail before he was caught, McFaddin said.

“We received a phone call from a citizen in reference to a male subject matching his description running through a residential yard located on Trout Lane,” McFaddin said. “Our units then responded quickly, set up a tight perimeter and deployed K-9 units onto the ground.”

When the dogs located a fresh track, deputies caught Gross.

He will face escape charges in addition to the previous charges of burglary, theft by receiving and obstruction charges, McFaddin said.
