Heavy shoreline erosion, caused by high water events of recent years, has forced the temporary closure of Old Federal Campground at Lake Lanier until repairs can be made, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced.

“Unfortunately, we do not currently have funding to make repairs, so the campground will remain closed until such time adequate funding is received,” said Tim Rainey, operations project manager at the lake.

No estimated date is available for when Old Federal may reopen.

The campground, on the east side of Lake Lanier at 6219 Old Federal Road, Flowery Branch, has 65 campsites with electricity and water, 12 tent-only sites, seven walk-in sites, and access to restrooms/bath houses, laundry facilities, two picnic shelters and a dump station, according to the Recreation.gov website.
