Cherokee County’s former elections director has been sentenced on charges she used a county-issued credit card for personal expenses between late 2011 and early last year.

Cherokee County District Attorney Shannon Wallace said Janet Munda pleaded guilty to theft by taking (by a fiduciary) on April 16. Judge Jackson Harris sentenced her to eight years, with the first 30 days to be served in the county adult detention center and the remainder on probation. She’ll also pay a $1000 fine and $864.16 in restitution to the county.

Munda was fired by the county’s elections board in July after irregularities came to light. She was indicted on the felony charge in mid-March.
